this is obviously a rhetorical question! so i'm not gonna answer it!!(i know by typing this i'm answering it, but technically i'm not..)

Because rhetorical questions... by their nature... encourage discussion.

What, after all is the meaning of the root word... Rhetoric?

Is that NOT a discussion? And in that Discussion, could you NOT find answers?

Because they want to get two points. Rhetorical questions take no thinking, they can just say, "no" and go on. Also, they hope to get the 10 points too.

Some people answer rhetorical questions because they are sufficiently unsophisticated that they do not recognize the question as rhetorical. Then there are those who are sufficiently clever to realize they can use it to divert the topic or to make a joke.

From the time we are children we are conditioned to answer questions. How many time has your mother told you "Answer me when I ask you a question!" or teachers in school. Then we become adults and we are supposed to magically know when to answer and when not to. It's not in our programming, I say.

I also wonder why people ask rhetorical questions, myself...

Because people love to use Yahoo! Answers as a podium for their own points of view.
And they love to get 2 points for doing so.

Because they are the easiest; they require no thought or an intelligent reply!
Most people couldn't handle a hard question, at least from what i have seen!

Because the operative word in your question is the word "question". Don't ask a question at all if you don't want an answer.
