Plymouth and Mass Bay were created primarily for profit, not for religious freedom as we're taught in elementary school. They were supposed to be communities that were the hubs of trade for the northern parts of the American colonies. The intention was that merchants and traders would amass the valuable natural resources (i.e. wood (since most of England had been deforested by this time), iron, furs, etc.) and then ship it back to England at a profit. Settlers were mostly 'middle-class,' for lack of a better term.
The religion factor was a secondary aspect of the northern settlements. Religious "freedom" wasn't exactly extended to everyone- only to those within their own church. Puritans did become the majority in this area. Quakers, Catholics, Lutherans, etc., were not the most welcomed folks. In Puritan-dominated communities, residents who did not attend services without good reason were often fined.
The early Southern colonies differ for many reasons. Since the land was great for agriculture, large plantations were established to produce foodstuffs to export back to England (i.e. sugar, indigo, wheat- cotton is not produced in great quantities until later on) The land was settled more sparsly and the properties were owned largly by rich and/or titled families from England. They were there to make money.
Southern society is an offshoot of British court society of the same period. The plantation owners made every attempt to continue with the lifestyle and society they knew and were familiar with. It was much more decadent than that in the northern-more colonies.
So that's as much info I'm going to give you for your homework. Time for you to do some of your own research. Good luck!

They were settled by the English, mostly Quakers and reformists from England who sought to practise their beliefs without prosecution, unless they were the ones doing the prosecuting (ie.Salem Witch Hunts). Other settlements in the America's were as follows; Acadia (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI) was settled by the French. Florida and the Mississippi Delta by the Spanish. New Amsterdam (New York) by the Dutch. NewFoundland by the Vikings(Icelanders) or Irish Monks depending on what version you believe.

Hey James, I doubt very much that this site was created for people to get others to do their homework for them. Try looking it up yourself. You might just learn something.
