This comes from a lack of understanding, and more so the unwillingness to do so. People seek the easier way out - be ignorant about others' and their feelings. They would rather not have to listen to the other side of the story. They are afraid that those who do not think or act like them will someday take away what they believe is the "right way". This stems from their insecurity about the fact that human nature does not follow black and white rules, but follows a path no one person can define. This jeopardizes the cozy compartments people have built around themselves to protect what they believe to be true or righteous.

Some people are raised in homes that advocate hate for certain groups, based on a lot of things. Religion, sex, sexuality, race.... but what you have to remember is in those particular situations, the parents had been taught to hate by THEIR parents, and so on and so forth down the line. It's a terrible cycle and one that is very hard to break unless you are willing to admit that there is something wrong.
I don't know about being evil. I think very misguided and full of fear and ignorance. It is very easy to hate something you don't understand. Instead of screwing up your courage to actually find out what the deal is, you resort to hate. I'm not saying everyone has to agree with me...that would certainly make this a very boring world. I am saying that instead of treating what you don't know about with fear, or hate....try to understand it. If you can't and/or still don't agree....fine. But that doesn't mean you have to threaten me physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. Just leave me be, and I'll do the same to you. Funny isn't it, how the things we were taught in kindergarten are so easy to forget? "If you don't have any thing nice to say, don't say anything!"

There are a lot of people that if you're alone with them in a one-on-one conversation, they can be reasonable and you could actually have a decent conversation, but if you stick them on a forum like this they're anonymous and can get away with being hateful. Also, in non-internet life, it seems that if people get in a group their IQs go down as a group, and it's easier to get rilled up and act hateful when you're in a group where everyone's going that way.
I think a lot of it comes down to insecurity. Let's feel better about ourselves by picking on someone else.

I'd just say love is a fear of being alone. I guess the people who spend so much energy on hate just wants to be alone.

People often fear what they don't understand. It's sad but true, maybe in time they will be still and really think about it. Till then we will have to try and educate them and live in a happier frame of mind.

I think it is because for one reason or another people hate themselves. You cannot love others until you learn to love yourself. (This does not of course mean in a self indulgent way)
Perhaps many people do not love themselves because they are not happy (subconsciosly or otherwise) with their way of life.

It's because they fear what they don't know. They can also be very insecure about themselves and somehow see what's different as a threat.
