I have a gas powered lawn mower that keeps stalling? Any suggestions what might be causing it to do so?

After you have checked the plug and the fuel filter make sure you have an adequate oil level. Some of the newer machines have a sensor that will shut down the engine if it gets a bad reading. Also check that the fuel line does not pass too close to the exhaust. The high temperature of the exhaust will vaporize the fuel before it reaches the carburetor and will cause the engine to die out.

Check the oil level, the idle control, clean the air filter, adjust the carb...could be any of the above...If your grass is too high that will cause it to stall as well...if so...raise the mower to the highest level and go from there.

Some good answers.....

if its slowly putting out, remove the gas cap and see if thats the culprit, if it keeps going...then that should be ok.

Also if the engine wants to run until it gets hot and shuts off, then starts until it cools off for a few seconds...... failing ignition coil.

I had the same problem with my mower not to long ago; it turned out to be water from condensation that was mixed with the fuel. You'll probably have to empty the tank and dry it out then add fresh fuel.

Water in the gas, low gas and mowing on an incline or maybe you should clean your spark plug or get a new one.
