I am from Tallaght and never heard about that.
It's scary to look at but not scary to be in.

Never been there though I would like to see it for myself. Haven't been to Ireland in many, many years. In fact the last time I was there was to visit Blarney Castle and "kiss" the Blarney stone. (Thank goodness I wasn't afraid of heights *SHUDDER* talk about folks looking like lil' bitty ants up there *LOL*) Anyway I found a couple of sites, see if any of them give you some better info on the place and the legend behind it.

a bottomless pit is impossible. There is no devil, its a creation of the 10th-13th century church, used as a method of demonizing pagan gods that they wanted to get rid of.
Be well,

I disagree with whatsername, not a stupid question. I've never heard of that myth but I'd be interested in learning more about it.
