I basically use the internet for surfing and emailing. I never download anything. My offer expires in three weeks time. I am looking for the cheapest provider. At present my television and telephone line are provided by a cable company

BE CAREFULL
broadband ISP makes you have a 12 month contract and you cannot get out of it

Seeing an advert for £8.50 may look good, but if read the small print, it may be £8.50 for three months then a further £15 a month thereafter. In a 12-month contract, that's
( 3 x £8.50 ) + ( (12-3) x £15.00 )
= £25.50 + ( 9 x £15.00 )
= £25.50 + £135.00
= £160.50 a year.

Other companies, offering about £10.99 for a similar package, without any deal is simply 12 x £10.99 = £131.88 a year.

Also, look out for wording. I have seen adverts for "Up to 8Mbps". However, it's "up to". That means you could be given a 1Mbps connection for the same price as another company offering 2 or 3Mbps.

Before you sign up, phone the suppliers and ask them what it would cost for you where you live. And give them your postcode. Then they'd have to quote you.

If you have a cable company already, check with them as they may do a deal with your TV and telephone packages. My supplier knocks off several pounds a month because we have a telephone line with them too.
