A good teacher is one who knows the capabilities of the students and makes sure that they are met. They know when a student is frustrated and will find them help to get them to the point with the class without making it obvious that they are struggling. A good teacher knows when a student is bored to death, and will liven the class up to the point where students aren't as bored. They are usually kind to other members of the faculty and treat everyone with respect and show compassion and the good characteristics of humans.

The three most important characteristics are 'patience', 'patience',and 'patience'.It is also imperitive that the teacher really cares about the student and about what the student is learning. The part you have to bring to the job (can't be taught) is an ability to get inside the mind of the student. I know all this because I never had a good teacher in all my school years. A good teacher is a rare bird indeed!

Good teachers are patient, good listeners, can lead and follow, able to manage their time well, can think on their toes, have a desire to reach all students and not just the ones who can learn easily, teach to different modalities (ie: hands on, kinetics, auditory) , they are creative, understanding, forgiving and never give up!

I was asking something similar in an interview!! They weren't impressed with my answer so I'm interested to see what comes up here.

I said patience, creativeness and a sense of humour (because kids say the funniest things!!)

My physics teacher!
He has won a national award for his teaching and no-one plays up with him, even though he isn't strict
A good teacher has the knack of earning respect without shouting, and definately someone you can talk to without fear of them going mad at you.

To be passionate about their subject. Difficult if you're a maths teacher though, how can anyone be passionate about that!
