Sure. It used to be called Ceylon. It's a very beautiful Island nation south of India. It is tropical and lush with greenary. Used to be a British Colony until 1948. The government is of course democratically elected with some crooks too.

The country althouh not very rich has a very high literacy rate 0f 99%. The people generally look like the Indians. Majority of Sri Lankans are Sinhalese Buddhists, Tamil Hindus about 15%, Muslims, Christians probably about 8%.

Unfortunately A minority of the Tamil population known as the tigers has been waging an ethnic war that has taken a lot of lives during the last 20 years. This group has been classified as terrorists by the US, EU, Canada.

People are people, there are good, nice, bad , crooked. But hospitality is outstanding.

Yes, the beautiful island of Sri Lanka was called Ceylon earlier (ans also Serendip, I think?). It has also been mentioned in the great Indian epic, Mahabharata.

The major religions are Buddhim, Hinduim and Christianity, while Sinhalese and Tamil are the major languages. It was a colony under the British and gained independence in 1948. Unfortunately it has become off-limits for tourists since the infighting between LTTE and local Sri Lankans.

It has rolling hills to escape the heat of the plains in the cool of tea plantations. The entire island has a variety of bird life, and exotics like elephants and leopards.

The people are friendly, the food is delicious. (Infact yesterday I had some Sri Lankan crab curry here in London where there is a large Sri Lankan population!)

Yup, I've heard about Sri Lankan and its history. I think its wrong to judge certain people from any countries. So you might wanna make friends with a Sri Lankan and get to know their culture.

I preferred Sri Lanka when it was Ceylon. A far classier title and look how much they gave up alphabetically.
