Hi
Time of a place depends on longitude of the place.Longitudes are imaginary lines crisscrossing the earth from north to south, and spacing east to west. They are vertical lines unlike latitudes which are horizontal lines. As our earth rotates total 360 degrees in 24 hours ,that means if we divide it we get 15 degrees in one hour or 1 degree in 4 mins.So there u r ,places falling 15 degrees apart have time difference of 1 hour,1 degree apart have time difference of 4 mins.Different countries time are calculated according to the longhitudnal difference between them.Prime meridian or the 0 degree longitude passing through greeniwch in London is taken as standard for determining times in the world

Actually, you have a valid point. The north profited from the taxes on the cotton and tobacco etc from the slave plantations, but knew that slavery is wrong. They wanted slaves to remain productive but able to force the people they worked for to treat them as human beings by letting them quit their jobs if they were not treated well. The civil war was largely fought to make sure taxes could continue to fatten the coffers of northern based politicians, I believe. However, people who did the fighting believed that freeing humans who were treated like animals was important, important enough to die for. Yet, today, when traveling through the deep south, I found no love for yankees. Damn Yankees, they still call the northerners, because of the cruel and unnecessary burning and killing done by General Sherman during his march to the sea - that caused freed slaves and masters alike to starve with no roofs over their heads during the subsequent freezing winters. Yes, the Yankees and the Rebels do seem like they are two different countries to me too. IL have traveled and I felt that the bulk (the average, not all by any means) of the blacks and whites in the south seemed less tolerant and less educated and less kind than those in the north. The Arab Slave Traders were terribly cruel, and although some slave owners were kind, like Thomas Jefferson, who owned like a thousand slaves he wanted to free but could not because he was in debt. Indentured servants were treated much worse than slaves, though, because they were worked to death because they could not be sold later like the slaves who needed to be kept well fed and happy enough to be worth something should they be sold. From my travels throughout America and the world I have come to suspect that if everyone could just experience total amnesia and forget the past we could start out fresh and not be so messed up and filled with hatred and hang ups. Dream on, right?
