Couple ways:
Right click on My Computer and select map network drive : \\Computername\sharename
Can open My Computer, go to Tools, and select Map Network Drive : \\Computername\sharename
Another yet is through DOS and type, net use G: \\computername\sharename
For these to work
1) the folder must be shared
2) the user must have permissions
You may need to create a user on the computer that has the share, that matches the user on the computer you want to create the map
If they are in different work groups you may have to use logons with different credentials setting
Example the computer with the share is in the "SHARE" workgroup and the computer you want to map is in the "MAP" workgroup. The computer you want to create the map might want to logon using credentials from the other computer, or one that you have created on the Share computer. that logon would then look like share\username
Good luck

Open up a folder, any folder, then go to Tools> Map Network Drive. Then select a drive number, in your case, G and enter in the address.
\\computername\foldersharename
for example:
\\ninja\ninja_storage
That'll connect to the computer named ninja and then to the folder named ninja_storage.
Make sure that your friend's computer is on your network and so that you can ping him. To do this, open up command counsel (start>run>cmd and press enter). Type in ping computername.
for example:
ping ninja
if there is a reply from ninja, that means he's connected, if not, then check your firewall and possibly some MAC filtering as well.
Hope this helped.
