I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. I'm doing some painting and trim work around the house and am thinking about getting a laser to help. I don't know much about them, so I don't know if what I'm looking for exsists. I want something to project a horizontal beam on all four walls to help in putting up chair rail, and crown moulding. I would also like it to project a vertical beam to help with setting up tape for painting stripes on the walls. Is this tool out there, and what should I expect to pay for it?

Thanks.

Easy question. Try www.homedepot.com and/or www.Lowes.com for reasonable prices. You can also do a search in Yahoo! for laser level. You will get more hits than you care to look at.
The price range is almost limitless. If you plan on using it only once, for your project, the cheaper the better.
For a one-time use, a plumb bob works well for vertical. A water level - a clear plastic hose with water in it - works well for horizontal, level lines. Water seeks it's own level.

Try checking out Lowes or Home depot. They carry laser levels that will do what you are wanting. I'm not sure of the price ranges but I'm sure they have something in you budget range.

If you don't plan on using this laser level, (they are reasonably priced now though)
But if you are not going to use this again,
you can most likely
rent one for the day from a local tool rental establishment.

Good Luck to you with your project :-)

Home Depot and Lowes both have them for $20 and upward. You can order online or at a store.
