Does anyone know what steps I need to take to legally change my sons name? Also, if you know anything about how I can get full custody of him will be great. I do not want his father to have custody of him should something happen to me because he is using some serious drugs and I cannot trust him. If anyone knows what state departments I need to contact it will be helpful.

go talk to a lawyer, family and children services can help keep the drugie daddy from the baby, they will start with giving him drug tests and only giving him supervised visits and being a single parent, you probably can get legal aid, they are in the phone book. good luck, hope every thing works out for you and your son.more than likely he will wind up in jail, have all this done while hes in jail.
