my car broke down. I had a broken spark plug wire for over a year. I thought the problem was plugs and wires, I tried to start the car over and over, then thought starter went bad, replacing starter consists of removing oil filter. when I drained the oil, I found tons of gas in the oil....any suggestions why???

I'm assuming you have a fuel injected car. You've got an ignition problem, without spark the fuel washed down into the oil pan. Drain your oil and replace then look for the problem in the ignition (coil, wires and such.)

yes, usually, it is because the diaphram in the fuel pump leaks gas past it to the crank case, but in you case it could be the many thousands of times your piston sucked in a fuel mixture ready to burn only to have no spark to ignite it. after thousands and thousands of times doing this, it is not uncommon for the raw fuel to squeeze past the rings and into the crankcase. the problem gets worse the longer you go without firing in that cylinder. you need oil to keep the rings and cilinder walls lubricated but with your problem you wash away the oil with gas which could cause major sealing problems in that cylinder.
