280 = 80% of boys
divide by 8
35 = 10% of boys
times by 10
350 = 100% of boys
its definitely 350 not 420 or 336

420 would mean there were 50% more boys than girls. 350 (someone answered that) is 25% more boys than girls.
An interesting confusion, because of course 280 is 80% of 350 and the 70 extra boys are 20% of the 350 total boys, but they are 25% of the 280 total girls. It trips a lot of people up, that does.

First find out what 20% of 280 is.
1% = 280 / 100 = 2.8
20% = 2.8 x 20 = 56
now add the 280
280 + 56 = 336
