Er, about twelve i think? One a week for three or four months. There's a lot more to it than learning how to shift gears.

A couple double length ones the week before the test, and then a six lesson pass-plus course afterwards, the value of which (like an ADT course) can't be underestimated.

It's a dangerous, potentially deadly business so the cost of extra lessons pales in comparison to the benefit.

My brother isn't quite so instinctively set and has had about 40-50 lessons and probably five tests... passed ok but can still scare me with gap judgement etc :-)

About 48... but I was practising in an automatic and having the lessons in a manual, so I ended up back at square one every week with the gear shift!

I had 1x 1hour lesson before my test and passed, but I rode a bicycle, I rode a motorcycle, and for 2years raced karts for fun
So I new clutch, and gears etc. My road work was good. the only thing I had to practise was reversing around a corner and brush up on the highway code.
My wife took 12
My son took 8
My daughter took 11
The instructors say 1 lesson for each year of age, but then they would.

Zero. You don't need heavy training to drive an auto-shift vehicle.
