1. Technology development, so new cloths appear.
2. Fashion, as people are guided by certain leaders, thus in fashion people expect London, Paris, Rome, lately New York and Far East to tell them what is good to dressed up with!
3. Needs. The needs are changing (clothes required for soldiers then and now, farmers, blue and white color workers, and so on!
4. We have got wealthier thus we change clothes often
5. We get smarter, thus we wear better clothes for our bodies
6. etc.

Fashion like everything else in our life evolves and changes with time. So, we dress 'differently' every year. However, sometimes the old fashions re appear in a new 'look'.

Women dress differently as they gained more freedom. When a woman was suppose to just be seen and not heard, she wore corsets and long gowns. It is not possible to do what women do nowadays in a corset.
