I would agree with Indiana ram that ganguly thought he would remain in the team without working on his fitness,performance,And also there was politics .And due to a new coach that too who was not into endure ganguly's silly performances led him to wat happened
All in all it was for good that other players understood that it was about performance specially with a coach like Chappel & now are serious in games

Groupism and Dadaism. He thought he would be the Indian Cricket Team Captain for ever even if he did not perform better with his bat.

His selflessness.......he could see other people in eyes.........his envious record......his backing of youngsters.........his backing of a so called'true friend' and back-stabber Dravid in adversity.........his taking over reins of Indian Cricket Team on the heels of match-fixing saga when even Tendulkar backed out of it.
What else would u want to know........its just that we hate people just for the heck of it!

his fitness , his poor form , change in power (powar comin in and dalmiya goin out) and change in coach ie is comin of chappell led to the downfall of ganguly

To me it's his poor performance in in the one dayers and tests.I also think that he is having a problem with his eyes.Because of his eye problem only he couldn't perform well and that's why he is out of the team.I don't think he will re-enter.
