why is it a 12a?

my parents are lettin me watch the da vinci code for my nine th birthday (yess) has anyone got any idea why its a 12a??? i mean i have read the book and everything and there is nothing wrong with it.

I assume "12a" must be like "PG-13". I think it gets this rating because of some violence & probably cursing.

Also, most of the good movies are at that rating today...

[ADDED] There is scene in there which young people should not watch.
