Diet plays a big part in cholesterol. Oatmeal helps lower cholesterol. I eat a bowl almost every morning. Throw in a handful of raisins, & I've already got 1 of my 5 daily servings of fruits/veggies.
Garlic is also good at lowering cholesterol, but I use the odorless garlic capsules sold at local health food store.
Try increasing your daily intake of fruits/veggies while cutting back on meat & breads/pastries/white refined flour products.

If you have high cholesterol, the following can help--exercise regularly, eat a low fat diet, eat foods that are good fats (e.g. fish oils). Vitamin E, garlic capsules, and fish oil capsules can help lower it also. If this doesn't work, you may need a prescription medicine.

Take the following supplements: pomegranate (astringent, cleansing, antioxidant), nattokinase (an enzyme from fermented soy, capable of digesting and removing fibrinogen), lecithin (a food emulsifier that breaks down cholesterol), and magnesium glycinate (capable of breaking down and removing calcium deposits).
