Does the movie live upto the quality of the book? My own thought is Ron Howard hasn't captured the essence or passion of the book. The book was edge of the seat, the movie is let me out of my seat!

ur right , i saw the movie and i was disapointed with it. it didnt show concepts which will actually be a point of discussion. maybe too many cuts. i know somethings that they say will say shakes beliefs but for me ur belief is ur belief and whatever ull know should not affect you. there are a lot of things not shown alot really.

sorry,I do not agree with u.I didn't like the book that much and I wonder why do people talk about it so much!It is full of scandals, many truths and a myth, all these given in a cinematographic rhythm,in order to confuse u and make u wonder.
usually films try to keep the average audience in their seats and also they cut off a lot from a book,so that it wouldn't last more than 2.35' (like "The Da Vinci Code" movie). In such an action film it's hard to capture any essence or passion, because the purpose is different:to entertain and not to analyse the characters or the situations.
Hope I didn't make u tired...:)

Personally both the movie and book sucked. Terrible dialogue, cliched characters, poor structure and overall believability. Now I love my movies as much as the next person but if a movie is completely shot and produced within 4 weeks, something is not right.

I havent read the book so I cant comment, but the film wasnt as good as I expected, it was a bit dull and plodded along in places, Tom hanks as usual gave a solid performace however. I found the ending bizarre and was lefting wanting more.

It definetly does, but there were some changes. I don't want to point any out for people who haven't seen it yet. It was almost the same and I was very happy with it.

you are right...the movie left out a lot of crucial details.
l'm rather glad about that though, the movie has generated so much controversy already, imagine how much worse it would have been.
