Abdominal bloating can occur for lots of reasons. Many Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) sufferers find their stomachs are flat on awakening but distend progressively throughout the day. For others the bloating can occur within minutes and can be aggravated by eating.

Your bloating could be related to your eating habits and diet. For example, chewing gum, eating or drinking rapidly, smoking, nervously gulping air can cause you to swallow large amounts of air, some of which reaches the large intestine and can cause bloating. Gas can be produced by such foods as beans, onions, broccoli and cabbage. Some fruits can also cause intestinal gas. When fruit is digested, gas may be produced in the large intestine through a process called fermentation that can make you feel bloated.
Eating more slowly, reducing the amount of gas-forming foods you eat, reducing your stress levels and getting plenty of exercise may help.

If you symptoms persist you should visit a gastroenterologist for a thorough check-up.

You might have irritable bowel syndrome, one of the main symptoms of that is bloating. Other symptoms are painful abdominal cramps relieved by defecation, alternating constipation and diarrhoea, and a feeling that you've never quite emptied your bowel properly. If this is the case, you could try some over the counter medication for it - ask at your local pharmacy. Some yoghurts can also help - the ones which contain bifidus digestivum, I know Danone do some but I can't recall the name. If you eat a pot every day it should help with the bloating. Also, see if there is anything in particular which you're eating which makes the bloating worse, and if there is try cutting it out of your diet for a while to see if that helps. Good luck, I know how horrible it is!

Drink more water - I know it sounds crazy, that drinking more water would get rid of the bloating, but it does. The bloating is caused by the body retaining salt - the water will flush it and the bloating will stop. Drink a lot of water on a regular basis!
