I have some newly hatched chicken chicks, who've been sitting under Mum in the sunshine and overheated. They're still alive, just, but looking very sorry for themselves. They are reluctant to drink, what emergency first aid can I perform?

Chicks should not be force fed if you've never done it before; if any fluid gets in their lungs it will cause inhalation pneumonia.
The only thing you can do is try to cool them down.
Just put them somewhere in the shade and keep your fingers crossed. You could fan them with a newspaper, or get their bodies damp to help them lose heat. But be prepared to lose a few.

Chicks do not need to eat or drink for the first two to three days of life.

Try putting their beak into a bowl of water and they will eventually drink it. But if the situation does not change it is best to talk to a vet.

Try feeding them small amounts of water with a pippet or tiny syeringe that should help and move them in to a shaded area.
