What exactly are people afraid of? What causes people to constantly bicker and hate each other? Take childhood for instance, while some children play happily with others, the ones that don't are often picked on, spit on, and harassed everyday. What exactly are people afraid of, its it fear itself, what they don't understand, of difference in general, or of greatness (of never being the best, and fearing that someone not as strong or tall will one day overcome them because they have a greater sense of pride).

That people will see right through the macho and bravado and humour and intelligence and see that you're just a scared little elf, in search of love and meaning in life.

I believe that people fear what they cannot understand, and everything else stems from that. From control issues to phobias Most people are taught to think and act one way and once something goes against that teaching it's usually delt with as fear...and the root of most anger is fear. Just as most phobias are learned in childhood...they were taught that being in high places was dangerous so they fear them. They don't understand that it's not the height that is dangerous- it's what you are doing there that is. Just as many children attack other children because they don't have the same habits/ skin color/ speech...it's because they don't understand that people are allowed to be different, they are taught that conforming to standards is what is right and safe.

Wow what a great question!
People become afraid when they are unsure of something, or they lose control over a certain issue, or they basically just don't understand.
I become afraid when.....
I have to travel to new places. The fear of getting lost and never being able to find my way back.
one of my children gets sick. I don't know what the problem is and I have no control over it.
I have to meet new people. I ask myself if they will like me, will I give a good impression etc.
I have to talk in a public place. Will I embarass myself, will they understand my meaning etc.
I have to phone in sick at work. Will my boss shout at me, will they sack me this time etc.

I honestly think it comes from their parents. I firmly believe that (well, the majority) of people live what they know. Meaning, we do what we are taught from our families. I would hope that as we get older, we learn to think and feel for ourselves, but often times this is not the case. At least in my experiences, this has been the case. For example, if you show a child racism, he or she will be racist toward others. If you show a child hate, he or she will either hate others or will be afraid that others will hate them too. Who knows really? I just think that in most cases, we are taught to be afraid.

People are afraid of anything different than them for the most part. And people know that. That is why they try to actl like everyone else, so no one is afraid of them. And so no one will pick on them. So it's all a bunch of people who are different acting the same as everyone else in a common ground jealous of those who aren't afraid of those who are differnt than them, and who aren't afraid of being picked on.

It sounds like paranoia. People are afraid that if they don't get on top of someone else mentally, physically or intellectually, then they will be a worse person. A fear that people are always out to outdo them.

People are afraid for all those reasons and more because the world is a scary place and it is easy (even if it is ridiculous) to point to the one who doesn't fit and blame it on them and it will continue to be this way until radical shifts in current intolerant acts cease.

Depends on the time!
Other times they are afraid of the unknown, others of the known!
Security and insecurity exchange roles in the feelings of people!

You have partially answered the question yourself. The biggest fear in all of us is that of 'failure'. It is this fear that keeps us from achieving greater things in life. Failure is part of any living being's life but the thought that we may not succeed in achieving what we want prevents us from even attempting to do what we want to.
