I have always wondered. I know we hear that we are slobs, betrayers, even wetbacks. I've heard alot of stereotypes about Americans, so I was wondering if there were anymore that any of you would like to share. Thanks!

Someone asked exactly the same question not so long ago. So if you missed it the first time...

Let's see, the stereo-typical.. and don't hate me for saying this, this is just a prejudicial oversimplified version of what people in the UK believe is the stereotype...

He owns a gun, maybe two.
Is devoutly patriotic.
Is overweight on a diet of junk food.
Couldn't tell you where Russia is on a map.
Couldn't even name you the states that border his own.
Believes that oil has nothing to do with the war.
Wears a baseball cap.
Will call himself Irish, or Scottish, or Welsh and will know this heritage for a fact even if he is ten generations down the line
Drives a BIG car or pick-up truck.

I could go on but don't want to get shot...

Loud, crass & ignorant. Niave and bigoted, about race and the rest of the world.

Your country folk also elected Bush Jnr, not once but twice, we're a bit bewildered by that and do tend to hold you all responsible.

I'd like to add I've been to America and I've met Americans while travelling and most of you are nice people. Unfortunalty I've also met a few (a lot of them seem to use this site) who live up to the stereo types.

You all wear veneers and have teeth whitening. Big wooden houses, police shoot outs at the local "Store", You all say "Have a nice day!"
It takes half an hour to eat a super sized Big Mac.
You all wear elastic top jeans.
When there's a sale on in a department store you all queue up outside overnight with sleeping bags then as soon as it opens you run in like a bull in a china shop treading on everyone, fighting over clothes (especially women with wedding dresses!) all to save a few dollars.
You all drive around in Lamborghini's or Hummers and have swimming pools in every garden.
Oh and everythings BIG!
Did I mention you live like the sims?

America's self-image as the world's policeman is perpetuated by stereotypes as the Marshall who comes to a Wild West Town and cleans it up and makes it safe for decent folks to live in.

FAT , although it is not a stereotype, but the TRUTH
other stereotypes: we are friendly, loving, caring, simple, and drive small cars, and conservative.

keep in mind, stereotypes are false truths, we are actually everying opposite of whats listed.

Ignorant, don't see past our own backyards, don't respect other countries or cultures, believes what they hear, fat, apathetic, cynical, children are hopeless, either extreme conservative or liberal, believes money can solve all problems, not cultured, self-obsessed, don't care, think they are superior, racist, loves fast food, 'ugly American', violent, cruel, acts without considering the consequences, only cares about things that concern them.

We are brash , arrogant . We think sun rises over New York and sets over Los Angeles. And that the only things that matter happened within our borders or directly affect us.
