This isn't very clear. However, you might have an oral contract, such as, "if you do this, I'll do that", and Person B goes ahead and does it. For example, if Person A says, "I'll buy your car for $5000 if you will have it tuned up and get it to pass state inspection." and you go ahead and get the work done. Person A may be stuck with a contract to buy your car. I don't know if this is close enough--you can email me if your situation is different.

First of all, you too fine to be buying weak minded people stuff like that! You're the one who needs to be pampered. Allright, I'm done sucking up. Take 'em to small claims court! If I did somethin for you and we had an agreement that you would participate - then backed out; I would have you in court so fast that your skin would be streatched from the house to the court room(because you'd still be reading the summons). It could happen. -peace.

If you have the promise in writing, then you probably have a good case.

If it was only verbal.....then it is only their word against yours.

I guess it depends on the "proof" you mentioned. Is it enough to pass scrutiny in a court of law?

(Do you think the threat of legal action would help to resolve this?)

it's possible to take it to court (you can sue for anything these days) but be sure to ask for legal fees and court costs in the settlement otherwise it might cost you more to sue than you'll get in return.
