Microsoft have two free online scanners that look for malware.

You can also download Microsofts free Windows Defender from the official Microsoft site.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to I.E.

download HijackThis from Major Geeks and do a scan. You can either look to see which files you think are malware or post the log file to a website where someone else can tell you what to remove. Alternatively download Ewido and run a scan in Safe Mode (Press F8 when booting up and select safe mode) and it will find all the nasty things that shouldn't be there!! It's not as bad as you think!! Ewido should spot it make sure it is configured to do a complete scan in all areas.

You may have downloaded a "Free program" which is not free after all the inconvenience. To check, click Start> Control Panel> Add/Remove Program> then look for a program that sounded like the program that gives you a headache. Uninstall it.

it's a good sign that you can still get online. try downloading ad-aware se, google it it's free. also do live updates on all your stuff like norton, spyware programs etc then do full system scans. if this doesn't work you can try doing a roll back of your computer to an earlier date or just reformatt. newer computers save your stuff so you don't lose everything.

Go to www.Lavasoft.com and download ad-aware se. This is the BEST adware remover there is. PERIOD.

AND it is FREE!!!!

You can also get it from www.tucows.com and www.download.com.

Install the program, run the automatic update, let it complete a full system scan and you will be cured. GUARANTEED.

Run program once a week to keep your system clean.

Sounds like the virus won`t let you download anything to remove it. Maybe you could download some of the suggestions from a friend`s computer onto a memory stick/ external hard drive. Then plug the external media into your computer and run the scans from there, good luck with it.

craig, im sarah i could suggest that you run a system anti-virus scan, click on the icon on your desk top for your virus software, then run checks, your computer will scan disk c, then internal memory files and folders, all sent/saved attachments ect, then disc d(ie) if you have used your ports for extra software like memory sticks.
This report will take about 15mins and come to an end with some details of damaged files or folders, you can then click to delete these files and folders and re-start your computer.
hope this helps.
