I used to be a Security Officer and the main important requirements was trust. Everything in security is based on that commitment as well as the ability to assess certain situations that may/will arise. Everything else such as customer relation skills and a clean Police record are equally important.

Most security guards are ex-police, ex-prison guard etc.

I'm just guessing here, but I would think you would have to have a suspicious mind, keen eye & be a good runner. You would have to be trustworthy as, depending on the job, you may be the only person around, with lots of expensive items there for your disposal.

Obviously anyone with piercings or tattoos have to be watched as they are bound to steal something (I'm always being followed in shops by guards).
