The "own-goal" was scored by the captain of the Paraguayan team, Carlos Gamarra in the 3rd minute of play.

The interesting thing is that FIFA (the governing body), has 24 hours to potentially reverse the decision and credit the goal to David Beckham (who was on target with the free kick when Gamarra deflected the ball).

I see Your question has been answered. I would like to mention how that goal was set up...did any one see? I did...it was David Beckam that perfectly set up the goal..the Paraguay player lost control and skimmed the Back of his head...score should have been 2 - 0 to England....

It was the captain Carlos Gamarra...

But I have heard that the Fifa can acredit the gol to Beckham because he was the one who had kicked the ball before

But I thinkthat would be unfair

The freekick was always going away from the goalie anyway so if it hadnt have skimmed gamarra's head it would have gone cleanly into the net! hence why it was given to Beckham! Duh!!!!!
