Hi,

Thats the most common problem. When people see ICK they quickly clean their tank but forget that ICK is a parasite and can grow again very quickly.

To remove ICK you have to check some parameters:

1. Put Anti-ICK medicine in your tank about 2 tablespoons per 20 ltrs. water.

2. The warmer the quicker the ICK gets bigger or the quicker it multiplies.

3. Keep on putting Anti-ICK medicine for atleast 13 days to completely remove ICK from your tank.

4. Seperate fish from tank which you see is already got the dieases.

5. Change 20 ltrs water everyday.
6. Clean your filter
7. Check the temprature of water.
8. Put Anti-Chlorine (just incase)
9. Do not put in new fishes.
10. Keep an eye on your fishes. If white spots start emerging then its already too late.

I hope this will help. Remember to keep on puttin Anti-ICK into tank for alteast 13 days regularly.

Thanks.

In some cases Ick is caused by the fish being stressed. I have had ick in my tank and just left the light of for three or four days and the ick went away, and the fish did not get sick again. much easier and heathier for the fish. It would depend on how bad the ick is. I caught the ick pretty quickly and it was mild.

Ick is an opportunistic parasite that attacks fish which are stressed or sick. Removing the cause of stress usually remedies the problem and Ick goes away. If you clean the tank, it will make the stress worse and the fish will die. Determine why the fish are stressed.. usually water quality.. Chlorine in the water? Add Ammoloc or Amquel or similar.

You can do a partial water change on your tank IF your water test shows you that it is due for a water change and gravel syphoning. Overcleaning a tank will only add stress to your already stressed fish, and stress for a fish causes them to shed their natural slime coating that acts as a barrier to things like ick. This is how a fish gets ick by being stressed and shedding coat. Ick is a parasite that exists in all fish aquariums, it is in all 8 of my personal tanks and in all 130 tanks at my place of work. Under normal conditions the slime coating prevents ick from laying eggs on the fish, but as i stated before stress will cause the fish to shed this coat allowing for the parasite to lay eggs. The eggs hatch out in cycles and it usually takes a week of treatment to catch the full cycle. Most medications work by killing the free swimming adults not the eggs this is why it will take several days. there are differant types of medications to use for treatment. Not all medications are safe for all fish. Any medications contianing formaldyhe and malachite green (like quick cure/rid-ick/cure-ick brands)will kill any scaleless/partial scaless fish -such as algae eaters, most catfish,ect... it will also kill snails, invertibre. There are meds that are safe for all fish, just make sure you read the ingrediants. What ever you do,, do not "clean out" the whole tank, unless you are moving locations and have to break down a tank there should never be more than a 50% water change and fish should always stay in tank this minimizes stress which can lead to other things than ick, like having to Cycle your tank over again. Please research the "Biological Cycle of Freshwater Aquarium" or "Nitrogen Cycle" both are same thing diff. names. Also remember anytime you medicate tanks remove the filter Cartridge, the carbon inside cartridge will remove medications from water. good luck

Yes, you should clean out the tank and everything in it, refill it with clean fresh water, then in a seperate tank or bowl that has fresh water in it, treat your fish with quickcure, make sure they do not have any more ick, when you put them back in their original tank.

Cleaning the tank does help. On many occasions I just put the quickcure into the tank.
