what are good questions to ask yourself when writing an essay?

i need to write an essay but Im not too sure what to put in it..it was a lame story and I just need basic questions to get me through it. Whats a good tip in order to think of a good thesis statement

this was a short story called the lottery bout a society that stoned someone to death once a year in order to be happy

if u r writing on some situation then try to imagine urself in that situation .write accordingly .... suppose you r writing on and public place then imagine you r present on that place and write what u see and how u feel.
if u r writng on ny celebrity then u hv to start with introduction abt that personality ,why u like it and then it's personal history...
remember introduction and coclusion should b writtne with good ,impressive language....
jot down all the point that came into your mind regarding that topic. arrange then in particular order and then elaborate it.
do ur best and gud luck..... :)

First thing you need to do is brainstorm think of anything and everything on the topic and go with it for about 10 mins or until you are all out of ideas.

Then you take a word from that brainstorm and you cluster in all the ideas from that word. So for instance if you had "dog" as you word...the "fluffy", "cute" , "barks" and so on.

When you are done that Free write using the word you have in the middle of the cluster. So you are just going to write about that topic without raising your pen, who cares what you are writing, don't pay attention to punctuation just write!

When you are done all that, read it over, see your ideas on the page...and pick them out...what are you going to focus on? What is your intention? What has your brain told you from all this? It would be right there on the page just look for it...and well you have to put it into proper English of course :P free writing never makes sense, but for sure it would help you out!
