aged 48, has a fibroid in her uterus measuring 3 cm x 4 cm. She is under menopause but does not have a heavy flow. She has normal bleeding for a day and a half and there is no white discharge or any pain. But, if the doctor examines her abdomen by pressing the lower abdomen, she has a little pain. Is it necessary to have her uterus removed on an emergency basis or she can wait for some time. Can she lead a normal life with this size of the fibroid in her uterus?

This is for a doctor to answer and since she is seeing a doctor, you should trust him. it is possible to remove a woman's uterus, ovaries, cervix, etc. trust your doctor. get a second opinion if you need validation.

Yeah It's possible and it's called a hysterectomy. Now it doesn't have to be and emergency surgery unless there are complicated issues which it isn't from what ur saying. The fibriod can wait. She can even request that the fibriod itself be removed and tested before she decides on the hysterectomy. The question is is the fibroid a fibroid and not something else. If she had her pap done and HPV is negative she can wait. If HPV is present I would recommend the hysterectomy ASAP. HPV in the cells that causes cancer. And uterine, ovarian, and cervical cancer isn't something to wait on .And remember this..support her. Just because her "plumbing" (my mom likes to call it that) is remove doesn't make her less of a woman.

Has she talked to the doctor about it? From past experience with my mother who had 8 fibroids, if your sister has no pain, no heavy bleeding and is going through menopause then they are probably abe to leave it. Menopause can actually shrink the fibroid. Why have surgery if it is not absolutely necessary.

Actually, yeah the surgery IS a good idea. BUT there IS another option: Lupron Therapy. Tell her to ask her doctor about Lupron.
