I've had an IUD for almost a year now, and I love it. I haven't had a period with heavy bleeding at all. I do have minor cramps, but that just comes with the territory, I think. The only discomfort was when I was having it put in, but that's temporary. Also, my husband and I think the string from the IUD pokes him during intercourse, but we just tried different positions and found lots of ways that work. Also, you're supposed to do a monthly test on yourself to make sure that it's not falling out and your guy needs to know what feels normal up there and what doesn't. It is the cases where the IUD shifted for some random reason that causes pregnancy. When you go in for your yearly they'll check it and make sure that it's okay. The IUDs that used to cause horrible problems are outdated. These are ancient horror stories. The common IUD that I have now (Mirena) lasts for 5 years and is made of plastic. There is another that lasts longer and is copper (I think). I'm not too sure about that one. All I can tell you is that you just have to try it. There are certain criteria that you have to meet (must be in a committed relationship as PID can cause severe infection; must have had at least one child). I got an IUD because BC pills make me sort of crazy. I haven't had any problems with my IUD and I love having it. It's low maintainance and I forget that it's there until it's that time to check it. I strongly recommend it.

I have an IUD and the only down fall is that you seem to feel pregnnt every month and yet aren't...I also have this on birth control pills, so I may not be the best source. Best wishes

I haven't ever used it but for good reason. I work in a health clinic that frequently deals with womens health and about 4 of every 10 IUD's placed I would say comes up with a pregnancy. about anothe 3-4 more end up with some kind of pain and cramping. It isn't my personal favorite choice for birth control.

i have the mirena IUD and i love it! i have had it two years and haven't had many periods at all. the few that i have had are super light, no cramping.
don't listen to those horror stories. the chances of getting pregnant on an IUD that is IN PLACE CORRECTLY is something like 0.1%.
the horror story about the woman who had it for 15 years and couldn't get pregnant... maybe she was too old to conceive... duh. her man was 10 years younger than her and wanted kids... he wasn't 18 i'm sure.
IUDs are actually the most effective form of reversible birth control period.
i recommend IUDs highly! they aren't like they used to be. they are much safer.

I've had mine nearly a year now and have had no problems, other than slightly heavier than normal periods (bled a little heavier and lasted a day or two longer) for the first few cycles after I had it put in by my OB. I LOVE my IUD. I have the ParaGard. (Non-hormonal. It works because it's made of copper, so it won't f*ck up your body) For more info, ask your OB or go to www.paragard.com

I PERSONALLY HAVE NEVER USED THIS METHOD. HOWEVER, I HAVE HEARD SOME HORROR STORIES. HERE'S THE FIRST ONE. THIS CHICK USED IT FOR LIKE 15 YRS. AND THEN ONE DAY SHE WAS MARRIED TO A GUY 10 YRS. YOUNGER AND HE WANTED CHILDREN. SO SHE HAD IT TAKEN OUT. SHE COULD NO LONGER CONCEIVE.
SECOND STORY, THIS ONE CHICK GOT A MAJOR REALLY BAD INFECTION. SO DON'T GO THAT ROUTE, FIND ANOTHER WAY.
