Probably not, but there are tests available. You need to talk to your OB/Gyn about your concerns and get regular check ups.

There are no prenatal tests to detect autism. Some kids are born with signs of 'something' being wrong, like my first child, but either way, it isn't usually until the child is at least 18 months before it really becomes obvious that it's autism. Some don't get diagnosed until they are older. MOST of the time, if you have one kid born with autism, any after that will have it, BUT that's not always the case. My second child isn't showing any signs of anything being wrong with him, but he is 18 months right now, so I'll definitely be watching him closely. I don't immunize, not just for that reason I have a long list of reasons, but that is one of the things that contributes to it. Otherwise, environmental factors can either bring on symptoms or aggravate them, things like the poisons in our detergents, personal care products, etc. But essentially, autism is a developmental problem in the brain, damage done to the neurons, so you still run a chance of them developing it even with all the precautions.

You seem to be under the impression that autism is hereditary. Let's take advantage of that wikipedia link down there to check that out . . . "Although the specific aetiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers." I think that means there might be a genetic factor, but most of it is how the kid is raised. Since it is generally diagnosed when the kid is very young, it means how they are raised from very early on, and that would include, presumably, in the womb.
You know, they seem to be saying that if you have one autistic child, you have a more than average risk for having another. Don't you think that's what it means?

This kind of stuff varies. Just because one child is autistic does not mean the other will be as well. There is a gene in either you or your wife that causes this. One of you have the gene but it is recessive. When you had your child the gene became one his dominant traits. Your next child will have the autism gene but it could either dominant or recessive. OB/GYN can help you to determine this.................You shouldn't worry too much about though life is life.

actually you need to do some reading- Autism has been linked to vaccinating children. mercury compounds and flouride have been associated with the condition- do some looking and you can find a great deal of disturbing information about it.
