I have a front railed in porch & want to build in one side & part of the front. Then build a wall from my house out across the porch & connect it to the front wall w/a door opening outside. It will not open into my home. It will use the porch roof & I'll reenforce the porch floor. No electic, no pluming. Ican't find any place on the web that tells if this requiers a pertmit or regulations for Shawnee County, Topeka, KS. I know I can call Mon. but want to know more right now. A gerneral Idea of ther amount a permit will cost if so would be nice also. It's only about a 7'X 5' & has no windows. If onyone knows where on the web I can find out or knows the answers, I would be grateful.

Your best bet is to call the building inspectors office on Monday, but since your up so late, I'll keep you company. You will probably need a permit because it will be attached to the house. As small as it is, you might get by without a permit if it remains detached. Another thing about dealing with local bureaucracy; Sometimes it is easier to say I'm sorry than it is to get permission.

The city will require a permit for any construct over some preset dollar amount (total construction cost). I recommend that you just call the planning dept. to find out what tigers a building permit in your area. They should be helpful. It sounds as though you really can do the work without a permit, especially if you are doing the work yourself.

My guess is you will need a permit because it is attached to your house.
