Im almost 40 weeks and have a feeling I will have to get induced. What happens? You pick a day and just go into the hospital and they hook you up to pitocin? Im just curious.

The discussion is between you & your OB, your husband, finance, S/O, etc too if one. You can choose the day, I did with my son. You'll be instructed on NOT to eat before you go in & usually you go in early, between 6 & 7 am. The nurse will get you set up in the room on the monitor & IVs. The doctor will come in to check your cervix & decide how much pitocin to give you. Sometimes you just need a little bit to get the labor jump started. Sometimes, you need a larger amount to get labor going. I was told I couldn't get out of the bed. I did anyways & walked around. Being allowed out of the bed is YOUR choice. I hope all goes well & congrats!

i was induced and it is pretty much what u think your doctor picks the Day and the hook u up to an iv and start the pitocin, it will probably take about an hour for u to start to feel the contractions. i had my son 6 weeks ago and that is how it happened for me.

First off congratulations.

Second I was induced and I picked my day out with my hubby and doctor and I checked into the hospital that morning. They put and IV in my hand (I hated that part) and the pitocin is what was in the IV.

Thrid, Get an Epidural right away. I mean it Get the Epidural!!!!

I was induced at 37 weeks because of high protein count in my urine as a result of Toxemia. Apparantly I was already having contractions, but did not notice. They put in an IV with a drug whose name I cannot recall, and later broke my water. From induction to birth was around 9 hours. I had no other drugs for pain, and did it all the natural way.

you said it all in your question. that is exactly what they do. They will probably break your water to progress faster. good luck.
