"Jack the Ripper" was the name given to the person - or persons - responsible for the Autumn of Terror in the Whitechapel district of London, England, in the latter part of the year 1888. His identity remains unknown to this day, although several suspects have been named over the years. The victims were all prostitutes (or nearly all, as there is evidence at least one victim was incorrectly assumed to be a prostitute, because she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time). The exact number of victims is the subject of much debate. Definitely 5, probably 6, and possibly more than that.
Way too complex a topic to answer in a few words.....but if you are interested, i recommend the following website. (Warning, though: it isn't pretty, and you'll probably be there for days.)

There is upwards of about 12 suspects. And definite agreement of 5 victims (all prostitutes). Yes there are tons of theories. Example: the royal conspiracy, a mason, butcher, wealthy bored man, a woman, etc. His looks where described as tall, dark hair with nice clothing and a hat. and the possibility of him not getting caught , well there are more theories on that too. like he died, he finally got satisfied with his last and most famous victim Mary Jane Kelly. Or he moved to the states or somewhere else. and http://casebook.org/ is the best site to find out anything from news articles, books, theories and hoaxes.

There are some speculations that Jack the Ripper was a Prince in England who had medical teachings and that someone else took the blame for his sickness (supposely he had syphillis). Some say it was the royal physician and the royal court took care of it in their own way. That's all I can tell ya...
