Firstly, my best wishes for your Bio-assignment.
Many instances can be quotes from almost all the parts of the world, some examples:
1). Many air-passengers from West believe that St Christopher's medal keeps them safe during the flight, rather than the fact that airplanes are designed with so much accuracy that statistically these amchines crash very rarely. Please note that in some orthodox Christians believe of Saint Christopher as a martyr who helped tourists. With this belief, the travellers carry images of him to invoke protection for journeys.
2). Some people stop their journey and turn back, if a black cat crosses their path. A black cat is believed to carry black powers of evil spirits with them.
3). Many people think a bird in the house is a sign of a death. But in my own house, for last 7 years, many birds have created their shelters and have given birth to about 200 chicks by now. Still nothing unexpectedly bad happened.
4). Many Indians think flowing milk from the vessel is a sign of bad or disappointing acts. Irrelevant indeed.

I went through the review of a book and collected the following lines from that review:
But please remember that Superstitions stem from one of these four premises:
a).That there is nothing that can be thought of that is impossible (in all possible Universes);
b). That there is nothing impossible (in all possible Universes) that can be thought of;
c). That everything that can be thought of – is, therefore, possible (somewhere in these Universes);
d). That everything that is possible exists (somewhere in these Universes).

Science looks at cause and effect. Superstition does not. Science looks at experiments that can be duplicated with the same result each time to prove things. I would find a site with superstitions and what's supposed to happen to you when you do those things and think about how science would treat those things. If you step on a crack, does your mother's back really break?

Look at the creationism in the bible.... That completely conflicts with science.
Also, "luck" in general is not a scientific substance or happening....so anything that gives you "bad luck" truly has no scientific impact.
