I agree with Lorrie, a true friend would not hold back the truth. Because when the truth comes out and it always does, it causes more pain. You lose faith and trust in that person and the friendship suffers

It's really easy to want to hold the truth back from a friend because you don't want to hurt them.
The problem with that is when they do learn about it, they'll be even more hurt that you didn't tell them in the first place.
They might end up hearing it from someone who REALLY wants to hurt them. If they are not prepared to hear it, they might break down in front of an "enemy".
It's better to tell so the person can be ready to hear it from someone who wants to hurt them.

No. A true friend is one that always lets you know what's coming at you and is there to help you get through it no matter how bad it hurts. You always know where you stand with a true friend.
