Yes, it is sad that the planets resources have to be broken down and translated into monies-but there has to be a system in place-granted.
I just feel, & I see some of you do too-that it is not a fair and equitable application of our planets resources.

Some countries have developed faster then other countries and hence are better of then other countries. The reason for the poor has more the a single root; things like war, predjudice, access to education, facist governments etcetera all can cause and contribute to the problem. Many charities have tried to address these inequalities but what needs to happen is change at a governmental level. They say you can always get an idea of a country by the way it cares for its poor and disadvanged.
Rampet capitalism and globalisation has a lot to answer for. Captitalism is all about increasing ones own finacial weatlh, this ideology absolutly needs to be balenced with social conscience and governmental policy to ensure that everyone is looked after.
On a personal level many peolple buy into this capitalist materialistic ideology; buy, buy, buy sell, sell, sell !!! They need to reasess their lives in view of ethics morales and what is really important.
As i was saying major change needs to happen at a governmental level. Weatlhy developed nations need to come together and address this problem of global and national inequality. Poverty could be abolished! It is not a fantasy. By a few developed and rich nations giving a certain amount of there Gross Domestic Product, a very very small amount (less the 1%) poverty would be abolished.
So is it greed? Well yes but it is also captilist structures that bind and govern us that need to be addressed. We are living in a scoiety structured on premises of greed. No wonder there is great inequality and poverty!!

You nailed it... the big G. "The love of money is the root of all evil." There are a small group of people who own most of the planet and won't be happy until they own everything.
Eliminate greed, and the resources are there to sustain everybody on the planet.

There seems to be some tangetial thinking to go from "resource rich planet" to "poor people" to money.
Greed?
The love of money induces stealing and murders.ETC What? if I became rich, I made people poor?
Resource rich planet is the rain forest, and oceans and rivers with fish and land to grow food and mines to bring salt and coal and oil from within the earth.
Poor people is what happens when man loses in his effort either to subdue mother nature, or endure it.

greed. it's the major reason why a lot of bad things happen. As Jesus said, "the love of money is the root of all evil".
likewise, greed, in any form, creates unrest in the world.

Yes Richard the reasons nailed to the letter, All except for the main one. We who know the causes sit back on our butts and do absolutely nothing about it. Self centeredness is the absolute worse affliction of mankind!!!

Well I think its like this:
We the people have resources enough for every one to enjoy, but we the people are so stupid (including me) to know how to use them as a resource.

Greed and a little bit of self-preservation (But viewed by the person who is doing it as righteous self-preservation) combine with lack of intelligence.

Perhaps before you can find an answer to your question you might try to redefine the definition of wealth.
