Limewire is good -- it's fast, and no it doesn't not carry viruses, as many people think.
The main problem I have with Limewire is that the Feds know about it.
Try an Opensource alternative, Ares, http://aresgalaxy.sf.net/

LimeWire is a breeding ground for "malware" distribution - software that screws up your computer. I'm a security specialist, and I can tell you that computers that have LimeWire installed are =rife= with malware.
To be clear, it's not LimeWire itself that infects your system - it's all the stuff you download thinking it's one thing and finding out it's infected. Just let one of those programs in, and they open the door for their zillions of "friends."
I only get files from trusted sources on the internet. If you want music files, check out the reputable bit torrent communities. I do.

I subscribe to LimeWire and feel it is safe and a fair place to download songs. However, you should know that is loaded- and I mean loaded - with XXX videos that may not be to your liking or you may not want available to anyone else that uses your computer. I think there are better sites. Maybe a good question would be "What is a good site......". Good luck, best wishes.

Yes, it perfectly safe. Provided you have a good firewall and antivirus in place.
However , its requires a bit of alertness too.
For example,
Sometimes certain search queries do not yield any results. Its is then that we get some stupid results which have simple copied the name, those files are to be avoided.
A simple word of caution is to download files based on the size in proportion to the format / the extension that it carries.
Example in point would be , An Mp3 track of a reputed artist , can never be less than 2Mb in size.
Hope this helps.

Its as safe as you can find. Just watch the downloads and get a good VirusScanner.
