I have a friend who has all the Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCSP CSI, and one other one I believe) and as an independent, international contractor is makeing around $200k a year.

Granted it's not as easy to get as playing a professional sport, but it is a more reasonable career choice.
