A thought is the first and also the last step of the communication process.

To a speaker, it is an idea that emerges in the brain's thought center, moving on to the language and speech centers of the brain before emerging in the form of words.

To a listener, the process is reversed. The thought is the end result of what he or she hears, which travels through his/her ears to the speech center and the language center before finally settling down as an idea.

All communication - verbal, visual or written - begins as a thought in someone's head and this thought gets transmitted to the receiver's head. Of course, this transmission is not always 100% perfectly done. Sometimes, it doesn't get done at all.
