i feel most comfortable knowing that i know knowbody around me. i like to feel that way because i don't become to relaxed and then do something stupid. i like the boundries of being kept quiet. its like the thought of never opening up to anyone is a good thing. is this normal?

sounds like you are self conscious

if you don't know anyone around you.... you probably don't have a lot of friends. if you have no friends = not normal
have friends = normal

your childhood was probably strict or monitored

thanks,

SS

I agree with you although I'm not sure if that makes either one of us normal...bah! normal is not always a good thing anyways! Seriously though, if you feel like this feeling is preventing you from having what you would consider a normal life- if it is having negative effects on your life, there are some good counselors/ therapists that might be helpful to talk to. it may be something worth checking in to.

Let me say something. I don't think it's normal, BUT I too feel the same way. Bcuz the way I see it I'd rather people not notice me. It's like escaping to another planet or something. Away from all the crap. Anyway, it's where u find yer confidence so just roll with it eh?

You are afraid of getting close to anyone as to not feel any pain. I feel sorry for you that you will never know how good it is to have agood friend that knows you - and yet you think this is good? Humans most naturally have a need for others or they are perceived as having a social disorder and cannot function in society

Again, Normal is defined by your expectations.

However, It sounds to me that you fear the expectations of others.

I knew a woman once that wore black makeup around her eyes, white makeup on her face, and bleached her hair white. She looked like a dead person. Then, she continually complained that people were staring at her, talking about her, and trying to talk to her. She just wanted to be left alone and go by unnoticed.

Didn't you just open up here?
