Does setting a ceiling fan on reverse work best in summer or in winter?

Here is the theory: In the winter, use reverse to draw air up the middle of the room and force warmer air down the sides of your room. Basically, this gets you air circulation without the "wind chill" effect of the normal setting.

This setting is also more practical in a taller, 9' or higher ceiling. In an 8' or shorter room, I wouldn't bother running the fan at all.

I'm not really sure if the expense of running the fans in winter is a savings. We never use this feature in our house.

the reverse setting allows cold air to be drawn upwards, while forcing warm air down, therefore making the room warmer, instead of cooler as with the regular setting.

In the summer you want to pull the warm air up and in the winter you want to push the warm air down. So simply put...summer sucks and winters blows............( down)
