I may be totally off base here but it sounds like your parents divorced and you are unhappy about it. If this is the case, I feel for you. Parents divorcing can be a terrible thing for children to go through.

As for your question. I don't believe that the world would be a better place without divorces. If divorce wasn't an option, very very few people would actually get married. Why get married and be stuck with someone the rest of your life when situations may come up such as a cheating spouse, growing apart, and spousal abuse and you can't divorce them and move on with your life. I for one would not want to get married ever if I knew that if he started beating me up, I'd be stuck with him forever.

If divorce wasn't an option, so few people would be willing to make that commitment that there would be more children with only one parent in the home. At least with the way things are right now, people are willing to get married and are a bit more likely to stay together and make it work. But if it doesn't work, they know that they will not have to suffer by staying married for the rest of their lives.

In a world where divorce has become as common as childbirth, it is definitley time to raise the standards of our society. Divorce is tearing away at our moral fabric, as well as the dynamic of family. If divorce was not an option, people would not be so casual with committment. They would only marry people that they truly loved and were willing to stay with for life. Divorce gives married people an option to run when things become difficult, challenging and hard to bear. In a world filled with so many other wrongs, divorce does not rank as number one on our list Moral Corrections.

I'm not sure that the world would be a better place if there was no divorce. Sometimes a divorce is just really needed when a spouse is abusive or if they cheat on you and there is no chance of reconciling because the trust is just gone. I don't like the idea of making people stay together when they really shouldn't.

This world has changed too much it seems.. for better or worse, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, til death to you part.. that did not mean the death of the spark of marriage. for as we age we also change, those changes should be taken into account by both in the marriage.
Divorce is , as was stated before, made too easy of an out. Unless there are truly pure reasons for divorcing there should be mandated counseling prior to. Yes, I also believe that there should be some sort of "classes" prior to marriage. I am not prone to one religious sect or another , but the Catholic faith and the marriage "classes" that they offer are a good Idea.
Every one now wants answers NOW> no matter what the reason. The way of life is as a microwave dinner ,,, very few want to enjoy the slow cooking of a home cooked meal . They want it now.

People happier? No, I don't think so. Whatever the commitment when one person is no longer happy in a relationship it is just no longer bearable for that person and then it becomes unbearable for the other one too.
More trust? I don't think so either. It's almost like saying they can do whatever they want because whatever happens they will remain together. It's like being stuck. That would be hell on earth.
Two people as a couple, whether married or not should only remain together because they both want to and because they deeply love each other, are happy together and cannot picture themselves separated.

Ofcourse not. With abuse, alcoholism, addictions to gambling and drugs, one parent who hurts chidlren, infidelity, abandonment, divorce is the only option.
A better question is would the world be a better place if there was more counseling and classes on how to build healthy marriages and relatoinships?

people get divorced for a reason, typically because of a lack/violation of that trust. If you take away the options after marriage, you might as well take away the option of marriage. People get married because they already have trust.

No, I dont believe it would make things better. It would probably lead to more infideility, murder, and/or suicide....If a partner felt so trapped in a marriage.
What needs to happen is counseling before marriage. Not jumping into marriage so quickly.
But neither will ever happen. Since we are a society made up of instant gratification.

It would be a much unhappier place, and perhaps a few more murders and suicides. When there is no other way out, people get stressed and will do about anything to get out of a really bad situation.
We need divorce to save peoples sanity, and their lives.
