Ok, I am a bit of a big women. But I dress appropriately for my size. My question is, in your opinion, what do you think about the bigger girls and women that are wearing things that are too tight, too short, showing the mid-drift, etc.? I have seen this going on a lot more. I am all for people having a lot of self esteem with themselves and loving their body no matter what size they are, but when is "too" much? As an example, I saw two girls at a store walking side by side. One of the girls' clothes were too tight. She was wearing the hip hugger pants, and her shirt was so tight that it showed every layer of "fat"(and I say that with no disrespect, cuz I have some too) on her. The other girl was slightly larger but actually looked better because she dressed more appropriately, as far as I am concerned.
Before you answer, I would like to add that my husband and I both were noticing this. Serious answers only please.....and I don't need any diet advice, just an honest opinion.....

As a fashion consultant, I would have to agree with you. It's great to be proud of who you are and happy with the weight that you are at, but that never excuses poorly fitting clothes. No matter what you weigh, if your clothes are too tight, they look bad and make you look like you have fat. I saw a girl today who probably weighed 110lbs... but because her pants were a size too small, it looked like she had fat, which in reality she didn't. People need to realize that less is more, and that being sexy can be as simple as a great pair of well fitted jeans, nice shoes and a good t-shirt. A lot of the movie stars don't have the most perfect bodies... but they have amazing stylists. What it boils down to is that people don't know how to dress themselves, and if they knew a few rules to help them out, they'd not only look better, they'd feel better

i think that there's such a thing as "showing too much skin" and/or "too tight" no matter what your size. I think that it's unnatractive to let every inch of skin hang out. But if you are bigger, the tighter clothes you wear the more "bigger" you will look because your "fat" is being exaggerated pretty much. If you wear clothes (no matter your size) that actually fit appropriately, you will come off as more attractive that if you are wearing ill fitted clothing.

I completely agree with you.
Iv seen some AWFUL larger girls dressed and its completely revolting. If they are trying to get a males attention sorry sweetie but all you'l get is gawks of disgust.
I have seen some wonderful clothes for larger ppl. I dnt understnd. Do these ppl think that they look good in tight clothes?
Maybe they have a low self esteem and feel this is the only way to make up for it.
I personally dnt like to judge either bcos im not stik thin myself but certain clothes just dnt look very nice on certain types of ppl.
Their parents and friends should b saying somthin to them i think.

First let me say that, I was always thin, then I got fat, and then I lost (mostly) that weight. So I think I can see this issue from both sides. I think if you're thin/muscular/hot, it is alot easier to show off your hot bod. If you're overweight, I think it is best to not wear things that are too short/tight. Let's face it, thinner people are the most attractive and healthy (why I'm still working to lose the last of that weight). So I think it's important to dress appropriately for your body type. Even if you stay thin your whole life, I think as you age what's "appropriate" for your age changes. So I think it's important to dress for "who you are".

Yeah I know what you mean. That was a huge problem at my high school. There are so many ways to wear things that flatter your body no matter what size you are. I have a lot of respect for you for bringing this topic up without being insulting to larger women. Oh, and have a great day!

LOL Good question. no matter what your size we have a saying at work or where ever. IF you ever have to ask yoursefl: should I wear a bra with this? THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS YES! If you are older than 15 - Yes, you need to wear a bra.

I actually worked at one of the nation's largest chain grocers and one of the dress code rules was: You must wear underware. The sad thing was, some one wasn't following that rule in order for them to have to actually have it written down!

I don't think a person (man or woman) should where clothes that reveal too much of anything or "squeeze" too much of anything, large or small. People will get get more respect if they don't show, I said respect, not attention, there is a big difference. Also unless it's a "lust filled little hormone" most people don't want to see you in "most" of your glory anyway. Me, personally, I have always been modest even in my "better figure" days, so I guess I kind of have a biased opinion.

You know, there are some "big women" so have so much confidence in themselves that they are just flat out amazing. I went to a play and saw a big girl, and how she carried herself! i wanted to be like that! But to have confidence, you don't need to show skin. Usually girlswho do show lots skin, big or small, don't feel great about themselves and try to get compliments or attention from others to suppliment their own feelings of inadiquacy.

I love confident big women, but there is a point for all ladies where they best not tread.

I think the better choice is as you suspect it is. Wearing the less snug clothing is a better look, like if you are a little big, fine, dress comfortably and appropriately, not like a sausage

I don't think it matters how much confidence a person has... the person most "appropriately" dressed (be it for their body type, age, etc.) is always going to look better.
