Actually, that is the time when it is the *least* likely.
A woman ovulates about 2 weeks (usually 12-16 days) before her next period. The egg only lives for 6-12 hours (occasionally up to 24). The sperm, however, can live for up to 3-5 days in the female body. You can't determine *exactly* when you ovulate except by ultrasound examination. So you have to pretty much time sex for *before* ovulation to get pregnant.
It is *possible* to be fertile right after your period stops, but *most* women have a 3- to 5-day window of infertility. However, every woman is different.
To determine just when *you* are fertile, please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It will explain how to chart your cycles to figure out when you are ovulating and when to time sex in order to make it most likely that you will conceive.
Good luck!!

You cannot get pregnant 3 days before your period, because you would have ovulated about 10-12 days before, and the egg died long ago. It IS possible to get pregnant from sex 3 days after your period, because the sperm can live in your body for up to 5 days, and so may still be there when you ovulate. (You can only actually get pregnant WHEN you ovulate, and you ovulate about 14 days before your next period. Sperm can live for 5 days, the egg lives less than a day. So there is roughly a 5-6 day window each month when sex can result in pregnancy.) EDIT: Those thumbs down folks -- do you have ANY idea how reproduction works? How is it possible to get pregnant 3 days before a period? Even if you did ovulate that late, it would result in a luteul phase far too short to support a pregnancy! (And if you ovulated late AND had a normal luteul phase, the period woulldn't come in 3 days, so it would be '3 days before your period.)

Right after a period you have about 5 safe days that you cannot become pregnant. After that time there are increasingly perfect chances for getting pregnant, the closer to your next period the better. If you are trying, best of luck to you..

I got pregnant within 7-10 days after my period! I knew because I did not have sex before that or after that one special day and then I found out I was pregnant.
I was also told by my doctor most women get pregnant within this time frame. It is a very fertile time!
No time is safe though if you don't want to be pregnant!!!
If you are trying to get pregnant , best of luck to you!

The best time to get pregnant is about 2 weeks before your period. During this time is when you ovulate (your egg drops). If you have sex, thats when the egg gets fertalized. After your period is the worst time to try to get pregnant.
