Everyone wants to be helpful, but how would you handle a startling situation like this?

call 911. They may need help, but it could also be a way to get into your place, so let the police deal with it. Don't open the door!

Depends. If my hubby's not home (he works at the hospital graveyard shifts) I'd tell him/her to stay at my door while I call the cops, then if they have questions I'd ask and answer. I would definetly not open the screen door. I'd turn on as many lights as possible and try to be aware of surroundings.
If my husband is home then he gets it. Most likely, he would let 'em in, let them use the phone, etc. He's that way. But he can be he's a BIG military guy and people are usually afraid of him, so, I guess he's not really afraid of people.
Little me? I'd be scared! I'd still try to help though.

I leave in the "hood" and I'm a minority so if I call the police they probably kick my *** too, so I will tell my fiance to lock herself in the bathroom with the cell phone and call my homeboy, he know what to do, then call the police, then I will answer the door with my .45 pistol lock and load ready to blast anybody, but I really think the person won't even get to my door to begin with cause I let my pitbull loose in my yard at night before I go to sleep. Tough luck partner.

Let's see, I'm going to throw open the door and make this stranger's problems my own.
Or, more realistically, I'd freak out an call the police.

Call the police, grab my shotgun and see what it is they want or need. If it be a real emergency, help out as much as I could. Let them use my phone if needed. Make coffee, because now it would be to late to go back to sleep.
If it were a prank or I was being robbed, I would still make coffee and wait for the police and ambulance because someone is going to get hurt.

I would not open the door its too dangerous. I would call the police and tell them it was am emergency. If I had a neighbors phone I would call them and also turn on all the lights inside and out.

Get out of bed, look at your window to make sure it isn't a prank or anything that could hurt you, then call the cops (if something very bad is going on) or help the person (if the situation isn't so bad).

open the door after asking who is was, then if I knew the person I would open the door, if I didn't know who it was I would ask what the problem was then probably open the door and try to help.

I would answer the door with my 44 in my hand, then call him a cop.
