There are many downsides, but there are advantages too.
An arranged marriage doesn't mean that you don't get a choice at all. Your parents don't make you marry the first person you see.
Try and make the best choice and then you have to work at your marriage. Even in a marriage where you select your own partner, you have to work at it. In an arranged marriage you choose the person and use the initial attraction to build love. It is a true love, not just romance.
The attraction in a love marriage builds over a period of time. In an arranged marriage you people have to meet each other once and make sure that they are attracted to each other.
The rest is the same; whether arranged or not.

Aside from not knowing the person and not loving him, nothing.
Good side might be that your parents would have your happiness in mind and would look at the character of a potential mate. They would find a man willing to work and support a family, not a boy who wants to play video games all day and night. They would look for someone who is respectful to his parents and would be respectful to you. Their experience will look for other factors as well.
But that won't bring love. Too often, people have the mistaken notion that "love" is only an emotion. Love should be a conscious decision; i.e. I love this person because......
Too often, people fall in love and get hurt when they hit the bottom. We should walk into love and watch your step so that you don't get hurt.
II don't really support an arranged marriage, but I think that you should listen to and obey your parents. And when your dad gives his permission, ask for his help to weed out the dirt-balls and to choose a good man.

Well Many Muslims from India are married by arrangements and Muslims have the lowest divorce rates than any other group(but then again they don't believe in divorce). But i think one of the downside would be that you want fall in love with him and that it wasn't you're choice or he might turn out different than what you or you're loved ones had hoped and he might not treat you as nice but then again that could also in a marriage of love and of choice.

Divorce is more likely, because you don't know the person, that you're marrying, So how can it last? After you're married, they might end up being a creep.
