I by no means am racist or prejudiced, I give everyone a chance to prove their worth to me regardless of race or creed. Eight years ago my Bro. got me drunk and took me to get a tattoo, He ,in my drunken state, talked me into getting a confederate flag tattooed on my right arm,It means nothing to me . But my place of employment is threatening to fire me if i dont get it covered or removed. Can anyone tell me if they really have the right or authority to do this?

Well, it may be illegal...but in reality...do you really want to be "tagged" as a red-neck your whole life?

Regardless of how accepting YOU are, not everyone else will show you the same courtesy, especially in the corporate setting.

The bottom line is, what is the job worth to you, will THEY pay to have it removed and what kind of jobs will you be moving toward in the future?

Getting a tattoo is a personal choice...however many companies will not allow excessive body piercings, tattoos, etc because they do not want to offend the public. If you have a high profile position then I can understand their concern. I would encourage you not to take it personally...look through the company handbook, it may be one of their requirements.

Consider your options, good luck.

Check with your H.R. person--they might know. You have my sympathy... as a high school teacher with a pierced nose, I have to make some concessions--like taking out my little nose stud during the teaching day. It's not worth having hassles with the administration over the hole in my nose. You might just have to suck it up and cover the tattoo if you want to keep your job. Every job has certain expectations or dress code--if you knew that beforehand, then it was up to you to cover the tattoo from the start.
Legally I don't know if they can fire you or not; you should check with your HR person or look on the web for some kind of legal advice.
Good luck!
P.S. If the tattoo really doesn't mean anything to you, then why would it hurt to get it removed? Not because your company wants you to, but because you just don't need it. Removing it now might even make your life easier in the future.

Well it'll be hard because all Laptops are different so there would need to be loads of different covers then. But I guess it would help if you told us what the laptop was. The Company that made the laptop probably might have a cover for it. I know that VIAO laptops can have a different coloured cover. But I wouldn't know a company that sells laptop covers.

My personal opinion is no it's not right, but usually when you sign up to work at a place they have policies and procedures, and you sign a thing saying that you'll follow these rules, or get the consequences. Because your not forced to work there you have a choice of not working there or going by the rules, and you sign a sheet ...so really its your choice work or Cover up.
Still i don't think that it's right but i found a place to work that doesn't make me cover up.

Talk to an attorney that specializes in employment laws. I would guess that they can make you cover it because it is their business and some people might consider a confederate flag offensive. Freedom of speech doesn't seem to apply in the workplace. But look into it. If others are not required to cover theirs, you should not have to either.

They are your boss! I guess they could but then you might want to sue them for infriging upon your right to "bear arms?" J/K right to free speech. However, no one is forcing you to work there so it may not work. (I'm not allowed to have visible tatoos in my job either).

This is a good time to say though that tattoos are not the brightest of ideas. Not because I don't like them but because of the social stigma still attached to them. Professional places of work require that you cover them up, remove them or not have any (although they can't require you to strip!)

since the tat is the rebel flag i will asume you are in the south -that means you are also in a RIGHT TO WORK state(this is important),it is easy to fire people in right to work states not so easy on WEST COAST .another question is your worth to company-how easy can they replace you-are ties and long sleeves optional.what about a pay advance to remove tattoo or maybee they would pay some of the removal cost if you are great employee or huge assett to company

Not sure if it is legal but you have to understand their concern- with all political correctness aside.
